Charles "Pappy" Miller

Charles “Pappy” G. Miller, age 79, of New Philadelphia and formerly of Sugarcreek, made his journey to that heavenly place on March 16, 2024, surrounded by his friends, family, and faithful companion, Zippy.

Born in his family home in Walnut Creek on August 26, 1944, Charlie was the son of the late Ohlen and Pauline Miller.

Charlie was a 1962 graduate of Hiland High School and would then continue his journey to become a supervisor at the cable company, Time Warner.

Charlie was known as a loyal friend, a dedicated husband, a loving father, and an amazing Pappy. Charlie was married on August 19, 1967, to Sharon Williams and they would share a love-filled 56 years of marriage. Charlie would become a father of 2 and a grandfather of 5. In the latter part of Charlie’s life, he assumed the role of Pappy, a name given by his first granddaughter. Charlie was a devoted grandfather that always kept tabs on his grandchildren, made it to every sporting and extracurricular event, and was always their #1 supporter. Being a grandfather of 5 grandchildren that were running every which way could not have been easy for Charlie, but he was the greatest Pappy a person could ask for.

Charlie was one of the most selfless and grateful people that you could ever meet. He was someone that you could go to with any problem, no matter who you were, and he would drop everything to help the best he could.

There was never a person Charlie did not like, and you would be hard-pressed to find someone that did not like Charlie. His easy-going demeanor and laugh were contagious. Every conversation shared with Charlie was sure to bring a smile to someone’s face.

Charlie was a lover of the outdoors and warm weather. On any day above 65 degrees, you could always find him mowing the yard, washing the car, or watering the flowers. Charlie was someone that you could never keep still. He always wanted to be up and moving.

Sports also brought great joy to Charlie’s life. Basketball was his favorite, especially when getting to watch his daughter and granddaughter’s play. Charlie could always be found in the front row of the games, cheering them on, and passing on pointers and memories after the games from his days of playing at Hiland High School.

The void of Charlie’s departure left within his friends and family’s hearts can never be filled again, but the pain can be eased by remembering all the memories, lessons, and laughs that were shared. From all his friends and family, “Take ‘er easy Pappy,” like he always told them.

Charlie is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon (Sherry), his daughters, Carla (Harry) Barker, and Darla Amos (Dennis Albaugh); his grandchildren, Tayla (Taylor) Berg, Callee and Jazalynn Barker, Mitchell and Lainee Amos, and his loyal dog, Zippy.
