Charles Robert “Chuck” Miller, 64, of New Philadelphia passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, April 19, 2015 in Union Hospital at Dover following an apparent heart attack.
Born in Coshocton on December 29, 1950, he was the son of Robert Miller of Dover and the late Janice J. (Schultheiss) Miller.
After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1970, Chuck furthered his education at the Kent State University Tuscarawas Campus where he obtained an associate’s degree.
Chuck retired from Zimmer where he worked as a machinist and mold maker for the past 25 years. Prior to that he had worked at Premere Enterprises.
On January 28, 1978 in the middle of the blizzard, Chuck married his lifelong companion, the former Marlene G. (Martin) Miller. Together, they were the proud parents of Jason “Jake” and Andrea. Chuck was extremely involved with Boy Scouts, where he was the Scout leader for his son’s Troop 84. He also was an avid gunman, serving as a life member with the NRA and coaching the Great Trail Musketeers Junior Rifle Team.
Chuck was also a partner and operated an indoor shooting range in Minerva.
His faith was nurtured at Broadway United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia. In addition to his hobbies and career, he spent much of his time with his family. He adored his grandchildren and enjoyed supporting his children’s endeavors.
He leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Marlene Miller of New Philadelphia; his children, Jason “Jake” (Jennifer) Miller and Andrea (David) Brantley, both of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Derrick, Benjamin, Cole and Elizabeth Brantley and Doug, Riley, and Brooke Miller; his father, Robert Miller of Dover; his mother-in-law, Betty (Bill) Sellers of New Philadelphia; his sisters, Mary (Steve) Boren of Dayton and Janice Parrish of Akron; his brother-in-law, Garry (Barb) Martin of Mineral City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, Chuck was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Robert P. Martin; and his brother-in-law, Robert L. Martin
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating Chuck’s life will be led by Rev. Bill Sowers in the funeral home chapel on Friday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park.
Friends are invited to the church fellowship hall following the committal service where a meal will be shared, hosted by his church family.
