Charles Leon Guy

Charles Leon Guy, 77, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, April 18, 2016 in Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia follow a period of declining health.

A son of the late Kenneth and Shirley (Jolley) Guy, Charles was born February 9, 1939 at Distant, Pennsylvania.

Charles graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1958.  Then on June 1, 1958, he married the love of his life, the former Dorothy Chaney.  Together the couple raised four children, Debra, Christy, Rebekah and Charles.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and the Marine Corps and he retired in 1999 as the purchasing agent from North East Ohio Natural Gas.

Charles was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene Church at New Philadelphia where he was a member of the Men’s Ministry, a former board member and a former Sunday School teacher.  He was also a Past President and former member of the Gnadenhutten Village Council.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Guy; his children, Debra Anderson of Dayton, Christy (Doug) Anslow of Uhrichsville, Rebekah (John) Fitzgerald of Dover and Charles (Angela) Guy II of Loganville, Georgia; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren and two sisters, Ruth Ann (Russell) Hobart of Goshen and Cheryl (Keith) Maurer of Ravenna.

In keeping with Charles’ wishes, cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.  The family will host a memorial service on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 2 p.m.  at the First Church of the Nazarene at New Philadelphia with Rev. Terry Kidd officiating.  The family will receive guests from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the church.  Following the service a luncheon will be held in the Family Life Center adjacent to the church.
