Charles L. Caton, 86, of New Philadelphia, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 12, 2003 at Union Hospital in Dover.Born July 28, 1917 in Coshocton, he was a son of the late Russell Alleen and Mary Kathleen (Gross) Caton. Following graduation from Coshocton High School in 1936, Charles served as an electrician for The Timken Company during WWII. He continued his career as a welder at Griscom-Russell in Massillon and retired from the Days Inn as a hotel manager. While living in Mississippi, he and his late wife, Willie Maurice Hudson Caton, enjoyed spending many hours gardening and canning fruits and vegetables. He was also an avid sports fan and a past Lions member.Charles was a man of great character. He devoted much of his time to the church and his family. He was an active member at the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia. Prior to moving back to New Philadelphia, Charles was and will always be remembered as a pillar at the Southside Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi. His son shared a timeless memory recalling that Charles was the focus of a sermon at Southside Baptist on Father’s Day before he moved back to Ohio. Charles will be sadly missed by those whose life he impacted so deeply including his son and daughter-in-law, Charles “Chuck” and Sue Caton of New Philadelphia. He is also survived by his daughter, Charlene Fultz of Golden Valley, Arizona; two granddaughters, Bethany (Jason) Beranek of New Philadelphia and Jamie Fultz of Golden Valley, Arizona; two grandsons, Ron (Christina) Fultz of Cape Coral, Florida and Steve Caton of New Philadelphia; a sister, Diana Lee Caton of Coshocton; 6 great-grandchildren; three nephews and one niece.In addition to his parents and his wife, Maurice, who passed away in 1998, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Caton, a granddaughter, Kimberly Fultz, two brothers Russell and Dale Caton, and one sister, Joyce Cox.A funeral service celebrating Charles’ life will be held Thursday, October 16, 2003, at 11:00 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Chapel in New Philadelphia with Pastor Mark Trotter officiating. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. After services are concluded in Ohio, Charles and his family will return to Mississippi where services will be held Saturday, October 18 at the Southside Baptist Church in Jackson beginning at 11 AM with Brother Jeff Parker officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial, alongside his wife, will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Mississippi.
