Charles Haugh

Charles Howard Haugh, age 85, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully, Sunday, January 29, 2023, following a period of declining health while in the care of Schoenbrunn Health Care Center at New Philadelphia. 

Born in the family home at New Philadelphia on November 19, 1937, Chuck, as he was known to family and friends, was the only son of the late Frank Haugh, Julia (Calai) and step-father, Daniel Korns.

Chuck was a graduate of St. Joseph School at Dover and entered into the United States Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Boston until his Honorable Discharge in 1961. On June 6, 1964, he married Mary Christine Bigler and as a couple raised two children.

Chuck was employed as a member of the Maintenance Staff for New Philadelphia City Schools for 22 years and was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He loved any water activity which included water skiing, swimming, boating, or simply sitting on the beach. Chuck was also a fan of College Football and closely followed both Notre Dame and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed keeping meticulous care of his lawn and listening to country music, but most of all loved being with his family and having them near for various events and holidays.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, Chuck is survived by his children, Shannan Kalich of North Carolina and Daniel (Jill) Haugh of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Tyler Wright, Kaylee Slemmer, Allyssa Haugh, and Hunter (Brook Gill) Haugh; four great-grandchildren, Knox, Everett, Azalea, and Ariella as well as cousins, Carol (Tom) Dapoz, and Bob Bigler.

The family will greet guests on Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 10 – 11 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Father Jeff Coning will lead a memorial service in the funeral home’s chapel beginning at 11 AM. Following the service, members of the New Philadelphia VFW Post 1445 will render military honors. Private burial will take place in the Western Reserve National Cemetery.
