Charles G. Olinger, Sr., of New Philadelphia passed away Tuesday morning, April 29, 2014 following a period of declining health with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Born in Sugarcreek on August 21, 1930, he was the son of the late Walter and Ola (Harrison) Olinger.
After completing his formal education, Chuck was drafted and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Upon return from the war, Chuck worked for a number of companies in a variety of capacities including driving truck and operating heavy equipment.
He married his first wife, the late Doris Jean (Zeger) Olinger and together they celebrated more than 25 years of marriage prior to her death in 1977.
Throughout his lifetime, Chuck enjoyed serving as a scout leader while his sons were active in the organization. He also loved having a back alley garage where he worked on cars and tractors. Another hobby including going to flea markets and picking up tools.
In August of 1980, Chuck married his wife of 34 years who survives, Sandra K. (Bean) Olinger. He will also be deeply missed by his children Patricia (Robert) Mathews and Terry (Cheryl) Olinger, both of New Philadelphia and Tracey (Perry) Beavers of Stone Creek; his step-daughter, Shelly (Richard) Lehman of New Philadelphia; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Chuck was preceded in death by his son Charles Olinger, Jr.; and his brother, Darrel Olinger.
A memorial service celebrating Chuck’s life will be held Saturday, May 3 beginning at 3 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory chapel at New Philadelphia.
