Charles F. “Pete” Geers, age 75, of Dover passed away Monday morning, March 29, 2010 at his home following a brief illness.Born September 9, 1934 in Canton, O., he was the son of the late Lawrence Arthur and Elizabeth Georgia (Geib) Geers. After graduating from Bolivar in 1952, he was drafted into the United States Army where he honorably served our country before beginning his professional career as a maintenance supervisor.On February 17, 1957 he married his wife of 53 years, Carol Geers, in the First Church of the Nazarene in New Philadelphia. Together, they enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas. Pete and Carol also enjoyed visiting numerous other casinos with Pete’s sister and her husband, Shirley and Ray Ammons. They also attended their grandsons’ sporting events and enjoyed cheering on the Cleveland Cavaliers, Indians, and The Ohio State University sports teams. Pete’s professional career began at US Ceramic Tile and then he joined Fresh Mark Foods headquartered in Massillon, retiring from the company after nearly 40 years of employment.Pete was a current member of the Sandy Valley Eagles and a former member of the New Philadelphia Eagles, the New Philadelphia Moose, and the Dover V.F.W.In addition to his wife Carol, Pete will be deeply missed by his sons including, Geff Geers and Terry (Lori Spittle) Geers, both of New Philadelphia and Mike Geers of Dover; his grandchildren, TJ (Brittany) Geers and Nathan (fiancé, Alex McConnell) Geers, all of New Philadelphia; his sister, Shirley (Ray) Ammons of Dover; his brother, Jerry (Sue) Geers of Elmore, O.; his mother-in-law, Bessie Schwartz of New Philadelphia; numerous nieces and nephews; and his pet cat, Baby.He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence Geers, Jr. and John H. Geers; and his father-in-law, Edward Schwartz. Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating Pete’s life will be held on Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Fred Wallis officiating. A meal will be shared in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home, immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be directed in Pete’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad Street, Canfield, OH 44406.
