Charles Edward Preston

Charles Edward Preston, 80, of Dennison, Ohio, died Monday, January 28, 2013 in Schoenbrunn Health Care at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.

A son of the late Charles Hilton Preston and the late Emma Louise (Franklin) Preston, Charles was born December 23, 1932 at Uhrichsville, Ohio.

Charles was a graduate of Uhrichsville High School and then served four years in the United State Air Force. He retired from Amko at Dover.

He was a member of New Life Church at Dover and enjoyed being in the outdoors. He was an avid bird watcher and was especially interested in Purple Martins.

He is survived by his wife, Irene (Stull) Preston; three children, Jan (Tim) Hershberger of Walnut Creek, Bret Preston of Uhrichsville and Darrin Preston of Midvale; his grandchildren, Jessica Dryden, Jerrod and Joe Howard, Jemma Eberly, Julia Howard and Ethan, Adam and Arrin Preston; his great grandchildren, Madison, Jaedin and Jerrod Howard, Maiah and Asher Dryden and Caitlyn Eberly; his siblings, Helen DeLong of Canton, Delores McLaughlin and George (Dottie) Preston both of Gnadenhutten, Jim (Peg) Preston of Portland, Oregon and Richard (Emma) Preston of Gnadenhutten and a sister-in-law, Joyce Preston of Dennison.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bob Preston; a great grandson, Kiean Smith and two brothers-in-law, Dewey DeLong and Ray McLaughlin.

A memorial service celebrating Charles’ life will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with Ruth Lentz officiating. Inurnment will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home on Friday.
