Charles Edward Marks

Charles Edwards Marks, age 74, of Mt. Holly, North Carolina, died Friday, December 14, at Mt. Holly, NC.

Born July 6, 1938, at Cambridge, O. he was a son of the late Edward S. and Marjorie Allison Marks.

Best known as “Corky” by his family and friends, he met and fell in love with his high school sweetheart, the former Carolyn Pritz as they attended New Philadelphia High School. They went on to celebrate more than 57 years of marriage.

Charles led a remarkable career with the United States Navy – having retired as a naval commander following thirty years of active duty. He went on to work in later years with the Gaston County Dyeing Machine Co. and retired to Mt. Holly, North Carolina.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Carolyn of Mt. Holly, NC, include his five children; Jan (Amy) Marks of Pittsburgh, PA; Jodie (David) Ballard of Richmond, VA; Jeff (Tammy) Marks of St. Petersburg, FL; Jim (Scott Berube) Marks of Buffalo, NY and Jayne (Patrick) Alston, of Charlotte, NC.

Eight grandchildren; Chris and Allie Ballard of Richmond, VA, Michelle, Sarah, Jennifer Marks of St. Petersburg, FL, Jacob, Lucas, and Noah Marks of Pittsburgh, PA, one great-grandson, Jackson Ballard of Richmond, VA, and a sister, Carole Arthurs of Spruce Pine, NC, four nephews and one niece completes the family.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Marks is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jim Arthurs.

Friends are invited to call Thursday, December 20, from 4-6 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Christian Wake Services will commence at 5:50.

Father Jeff Coning will Celebrate Mass of Christian Burial Friday morning, December 21, at 10 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia.

Burial, with military honors, will follow in New Philadelphia’s East Avenue Cemetery.

Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home’s website.

The Marks family request that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington DC, 20090-6011.
