Charles Edward Lowery

August 12, 1935 — December 27, 2012

Charles Edward Lowery, age 77, of Gary, Indiana, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, December 27, 2012, in Saint Vincent Hospice at Little Rock, Arkansas.
Born at Luverne, Alabama, August 12, 1935, he was one of sixteen sons and daughters born to the late Charles Herbert and Bessie Long Lowery.
At the age of 14, Charles moved with his family to Dover where he attended Dover High School while working the second shift at the former Robinson Clay Company.
As a young man, he began a career in a US Steel plant at Canton where he rose through the ranks as a Boilermaker, relocating within the company to plants at Lorain, Ohio, and ultimately retiring from the company’s operation at Gary, Indiana. Not one to settle into retirement, Charles soon put his expertise in boiler and plumbing operation to work with the Indiana Department of Corrections where he retired a second time as a foreman.
Throughout his life Charles enjoyed riding motorcycles and activities that let him enjoy time with others. He enjoyed watching sports, hunting, fishing and sharing a laugh with those he could. His stories about his life experiences were always fun to hear and it was a joy to watch him tell about the times of old and new.
Charles will especially be remembered and cherished for his love of family and the many ways he expressed such a deep concern for others. He could always be counted on for encouraging everyone to be strong and to do what is right and trust The Lord for everything else. The nicknames he would give to loved ones was a way to let you know he was thinking of you and was glad you were with him.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, the former Veronica Streeter, who resides at Gary, Indiana, as well as five sons and two daughters listed in birth order; Antonio Lowery, who is deceased, The Rev. Christopher (wife, Cheryl) Lowery of Dover, Zina Hope Hinton of Little Rock, AR, Lynn Edward (wife, Jenny) Lowery of Michigan City, Indiana, Michael T. Lowery of Carolina, Puerto Rico, Gerald Herbert (wife, Rose) Lowery of Little Rock, AR, Myra Lee (husband, Ronald) Hayden of Texarkana, TX, and Charles E. Lowery, Jr. of Gary, Indiana.
