Charles Edgar Horner

Charles Edgar “Chuck” Horner Sr. 70, of Wainwright passed away Thursday, December 19, 2002 in his home following a three year battle with cancer. Born September 1, 1932 in East Liverpool OH, he was a son of the late Raymond C. and Minnie Talbott Horner. As a young man, Chuck served his country in the Korean War. Later, he worked for Sentle Trucking as a truck driver for many years. Outside of work, Chuck was an avid sports fan. During the 1950’s, Chuck raced stock cars on the dirt track at Midvale Speedway. In later years, he enjoyed watching racing from the sidelines or on television. When he was not following his favorite racer or team, he enjoyed listening to the radio, especially WBTC’s Dial & Deal; a program that he participated in regularly. Mr. Horner leaves behind his wife of 47 years, the former Doris Beamer, whom he married March 4, 1955; a daughter, Joan (Paul) Swaney; a son, Charles (Susan Wright) Horner Jr. both of Wainwright; grandchildren, Paul Swaney II, Jill Swaney of Tuscarawas and Carla, Stacy, and Travis Horner of Gnadenhutten; great-granddaughter, Chelsey Swaney of Tuscarawas; mother-in-law, Sarah Beamer of Wainwright; brother, Ray (Ann) Horner of East Liverpool; sisters, Thelma Gossett & Mary Cook of California. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law; John D. Beamer, brothers Norman, Shirly, Elzie and Joe Horner, a sister; Nettie Horner and grandsons Brett and Nick Swaney. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1PM in the funeral home Chapel with Pastor Rob Musick officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia.
