Charles “Chuck” DeMattio, 60, of New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 7, 2008.A son of the late Frank and Catherine (Battisti) DeMattio, Chuck was born December 30, 1947 at Dennison, Ohio.He was a 1966 graduate of Midvale High School and he served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.In 1973, Chuck formed his own business, DeMattio Construction. He will be remembered for his extreme passion he carried for his work. He was known to start his work day long before sunrise and not finish well until after sunset and usually not taking a day off. Over the years, his business has proved to be a true asset to the Tuscarawas Valley in part because of the Schoenbrunn Racquet Club and surrounding area he developed, residential communities such as Honey Valley Estates and Sandlewood Estates and the many public improvement tasks he has completed for various municipalities. Chuck was truly fond of working on projects for the city of New Philadelphia.Chuck enjoyed sports and was an athlete himself. He enjoyed playing softball he enjoyed following his children’s sporting events while they attended Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School. But most of all, he will be remembered as a family man. Even though his work required him to put in long hours at times, he still found time to spend with his family. He was an outstanding father who was always willing to help his children in their personal or business lives. Chuck was a true best friend to his children and he adored his grandsons who meant the world to him.He is survived by his children, Denise (Frittz) McGinnis and Kevin DeMattio both of New Philadelphia; his grandsons, Austin Charles Daily McGinnis and Bailey Frittz McGinnis; a sister, Rose Johnson of Dover; three brothers, Frank DeMattio and Gene (Joan) DeMattio both of Wintersville, Ohio and Albert (Kay) DeMattio of New Philadelphia and his faithful dog, Kya.The family will receive guests on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and again on Wednesday one hour before the service. A funeral service celebrating Chuck’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Pastor Larry Hostetler officiating. In keeping with Chuck’s wishes, cremation will follow the funeral service.Anyone wishing to make a charitable contribution in Chuck’s name may do so to the Tuscarawas County Standing Up for Down Syndrome Association, P.O.
