Charles David Blackwood

Charles David Blackwood, 50, of Dellroy, died Monday, June 25, 2012 at his home.

A son of Emillie (Hofelt) Blackwood and the late Charles Blackwood, Chuck was born August 21, 1961 at Massillon, Ohio.

Chuck graduated from Jackson High School in 1980. He was a member of the wrestling team in high school and finished his senior season with a 7th place finish at the Ohio State Wrestling Tournament in the heavyweight division. He then continued his education and wrestling career at Tri-C College at Cleveland.

He was an electrician by trade and was a member of Local Union #540 IBEW of Canton.

Chuck was an avid sportsman and had a true passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed ATV Cross Country racing and at one time he raced on the GNCC Racing Circuit. He also enjoyed bow hunting and fishing and was a former president of the Southern Ohio Walleye Club. Chuck could often be found cooking, especially grilling, smoking meats and having fish frys.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends who will always remember “Big Chuck” for his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to become a friend to anyone he met.

In addition to his mother, Chuck is survived by his wife, Denise (Christman) Blackwood, whom he married on October 20, 1984; a brother, Cain (Lisa) Blackwood of Bolivar; a sister, Kirstin (Brad) Cheyney of Canal Fulton; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and his beloved dog, Tyson.

He was preceded in death by his father and a niece, Megan Blackwood.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 28, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A funeral service celebrating Chuck’s life will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home with his uncle, Pastor Rufus Hofelt, officiating. Burial will follow in Union Valley Cemetery near Dellroy.
