Charles A. “Charlie” Robinson, 89, of Gnadenhutten, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020 in Schoenbrunn Health Care at New Philadelphia.
Born in Gnadenhutten, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mildred (Sanders) Robinson and a 1949 graduate of the former Gnadenhutten High School. Following his graduation, Charlie served honorably with the United States Army. Following his discharge, he started his long career as a foundry worker with the former Joy Manufacturing at New Philadelphia. Charlie was a longtime member of the Newcomerstown Church of the Nazarene at Newcomerstown and the Tuscarawas VFW. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed fishing and bowling.
In 1985, Charlie was preceded in death by his first wife, the late Marie (Boles) Robinson and is survived by his wife, Virginia (Owens) Robinson of the residence. Also surviving are his daughters, Tina (Donald) Liedtke of New Philadelphia and Margaret (Chris) Ruegsegger of Battle Creek, Michigan; two step-sons, Keith Davis and Bryan (Linda) Davis; seven grandchildren, Bobbie Jo (Brian) Trolio, David Robinson and his companion, Tosha Cottrell, Casey Robinson and her companion, Russell Landes, Jessica (Josh) Warrene, Donald Liedtke III and his companion Trishia Day, Christopher Ruegsegger II and Natasha Ruegsegger; two step- grandchildren, Emily (Brandon) Rudd and Adam (Kari) Davis; five great-grandchildren, Anthony “Tony Jo” Trolio, Kamden Wright, Rylee Wright, Van Koerber and Bentley Koerber; a step-great grandchild, Ezra Davis; a brother, Ray (Wilma) Robinson and three sisters, Vera Paden, Joyce Walton and Helen Haga.
In addition to his parents and his first wife, a son, David Robinson; two sisters, Erma Reneker and Doris McComb and an infant brother, Howard Robinson, also preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 19, 2020 from 9 to 10:30 AM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A funeral service will begin immediately following the visitation at 10:30 AM with Pastor Gerald Gray officiating. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover where the New Philadelphia VFW will provide military honors.
Due to COVID 19, safety precautions will be taken. The 6-foot rule will be honored and all guests are required to wear a mask to enter the funeral home. For the safety of everyone, and to allow other guests to pay their respects, we politely ask that visitors who do not intend to stay for the service, to not linger in the funeral home and to promptly exit the building after greeting the family.
