Charles Campo Jr.

Charles Campo, Jr., 93, a lifelong resident of New Philadelphia, died Friday, December 7, 2007 in Union Hospital at Dover.
Born in New Philadelphia on October 10, 1914, he was the son of the late Charles Sr. and Adele (Conconi) Campo.
After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, Charles began his professional career. From 1936 through 1945, he worked alongside his brother, Fred, as a shoe repairman at the former Campo Shoe Shop on Ashwood Lane in New Philadelphia. From there, the two brothers worked at Campo Billiards. Charles was then employed by Endres Floral and retired from the former Warner & Swasey in 1980 after sharing his talents with the company for 18 years.
Charles was a life member at Sacred Heart Church and was a member of the International Association of Machinists Union. He was a talented cook and baker, excelling in pie crusts. Gardening and playing the piano were also pastimes he enjoyed.
Charles is survived by his two daughters, Judith Campo of New Philadelphia and Carolyn (Charles) Stratton of Grand Junction, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Katherine Marie Schumacher on June 21, 2001; two sisters, Emma (Serafino) Gottardi and Anna (Herman) Albaugh; and one brother, Fred Campo.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Monday, December 10, 2007 from 3 to 6 PM with a Christian Wake service beginning at 5:45 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. George J. Schlegel in Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday at 10:30 AM with burial following in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Friends and family are invited to St. Ambrose Hall where Charles’ church family will prepare and serve a meal following the committal service.
