Charlene Rae Snyder, age 75, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully early Saturday afternoon, August 25, 2012, in her home, following a brief illness.
Born at Dover, May 19, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Dorothy Ervin Young.
A graduate of Bogalusa High School in Louisiana, she resided there for eighteen years before returning to the Tuscarawas Valley in the late 1950’s and ultimately settling in New Philadelphia in 1962. Charlene retired in 1999 following a thirty-five year career with the Times-Reporter and it’s sister company, Midwest Offset where she worked as a computer operator.
Charlene loved to spend time with her family, and her friends. She made several trips annually back to Louisiana to kindle the lifelong friendships she forged while in high school. She also enjoyed daytime outings with her local friends to casinos, and monthly card games with her Ladies Card Group.
Her memberships include the Broadway United Methodist Church as well as both the New Philadelphia VFW, the Dover Moose Lodge.
She’ll be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother by her family which includes two daughters; Dana (husband, Pete) Hafliger of Dover, and Michele (companion, Bill Little) Nepsa with whom she resided at New Philadelphia.
Grandma Charlene will be sadly missed by her grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as “BooBoo”; Joshua Nepsa (companion Ashley Wheeler) of Canton, Laura Nepsa of New Philadelphia, and Daniel, Joseph and Stephanie Hafliger, all of Dover. She especially looked forward to spending time with her great-grandson, Jacob Keith Nepsa, of Dover.
A sister, Marlene Muth of Dover, and a sister-in-law, Janice Young of Strasburg, also survives. Many nieces and nephews, and friends of her grandchildren who also called her “BooBoo” complete the family.
In addition to her parents, Charlene was preceded in death by her daughter, Penny Snyder, a grandson, Cpl. Keith V. Nepsa, and her brother, Richard Young.
Friends are invited to call Tuesday from 4-7 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
Pastor Bill Sowers will lead Charlene’s funeral service Wednesday at 1:30 in Broadway United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow in New Philadelphia’s East Avenue Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Avenue SW New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
