Catherine “Kittie” Beck, 89, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully in Union Hospital early Friday morning, July 11, 2003.Born June 22, 1914 in England, her family moved to America when she was young. Kittie graduated high school in Seaford, Delaware before she began a life of adventure, that would lead her from the east to the west coast, then south to Florida, resulting in her living in more than 8 states during her adult life. Most of he career was spent in hospitality and food service management. She made her last move nine years ago to New Philadelphia, to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law Betty (Larry) Gribble of New Philadelphia. Her family also includes two sons, Jim (Pat) Frost of St. Josephs, Missouri; and Ted (Monica) Beck of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a special daughter-in-law, Thelma Cromley of San Diego, California, five grandchildren, Scott Frost; Nancy (Jim) Howard; Jim Beck; Mary (Jeff) Long; and Susie (Andy) Liptak. She will be sadly missed by six great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Howard; Shane, Austin and Lauren Long; and Ashley and Holly Liptak. Kittie was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty, Jeanie and Winnie, and three brothers, Tom, Herbert and Willie, in addition to her husband, Theodore Beck. A memorial service, led by Chaplain David Rodweller, will be Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at 3 PM in the chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home. Cremation will be cared for locally through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. There are no calling hours. Kittie is now in a better place with her longtime friend Evelyn “Mickey” Burns who, along with Kitty’s sister Betty, was afflicted by Cancer. In memory of Mickey and Betty, Mrs. Beck’s family request that contributions be directed to the American Cancer Society, Area Office #12, 201-A West Ohio Avenue, Dover Ohio, 44622.
