Catherine “Katie” Kneppelt Sawvel

March 9, 1927 — March 25, 2013

Catherine “Katie” Kneppelt Sawvel, 86, of Dover, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 25, 2013 at New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover where she resided for the past seven years.

Born on March 9, 1927 at Dover, Ohio, Katie was the daughter of the late Arthur and Blanche Porter and she grew up on Mt. Pleasant at Dover.

She graduated from Dover High School then went on to graduate from Aultman School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Following graduation, Katie married Robert E. Kneppelt and together they raised two children, Nancy and Bob.

Katie greatly enjoyed fishing, writing, needlecrafts, gardening and telling jokes. She spent the majority of her life lovingly caring for other people as an RN. She worked for Union Hospital, Drs. Rinderknecht and Martin, New Philadelphia Health Department and several nursing homes. Katie attended both Word of Faith Christian Center and Faith Christian Church.

She is survived by her two children, Nancy (Ben) Cox and Bob (Tammy) Kneppelt and she was a wonderful Grandmother to Carrie (Eric) Williams and Ethan and Jennie Kneppelt. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert; her second husband, John Leo Sawvel; her brother, Donald L. Porter and her great grandson, Henry Davis Williams.

Katie’s family would like to thank the staff at New Dawn Retirement Community for their years of compassionate care given to her.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A funeral service celebrating Katie’s life will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Jim Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal service, a luncheon will be held in the Hospitality Room in the Geib Funeral Center.
