Catherine Barnish, 92, a longtime resident of New Philadelphia, died late Saturday afternoon, December 20, 2003, in Country Club Retirement Center at Dover. Born November 5, 1911 in Hastings, Pennsylvania, she was one of seven daughters born to the late Frank Fikas and Nora Klusek Fikas.Mrs. Barnish was a member of Sacred Heart Church.She was a homemaker who really enjoyed crocheting. Her family will long treasure hand made gifts such as tablecloths, and afghans, that she made for each child and grandchild. Her husband, Taddy Barnish, was a talented musician, and was known to play the accordion in a local orchestra prior to his death in June of 1975. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frances E. May of New Philadelphia, and Mrs. Glenn (Dorothy C.) Smith of Canton; thirteen grandchildren, Tom, Chuck, Eugene, April, Marsha, Bob, Larry, Ted S., Cheryl, Rudie, Glenn, Beth and Ted B.; a sister, Blanche Huff of Flushing, OH; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.In addition to her parents and husband, Catherine was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Barnish, and five sisters. Monsignor George Schlegel will lead funeral service commemorating her life Tuesday, December 23, 2003, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home one hour prior to the start of the service. Burial, alongside her husband, will follow at Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia.
