Carroll K. "Red" Elliott, 83, a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him, passed away on March 3, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and determined spirit.
Born on April 14, 1941, Red was one of nine children born to the late LeRoy and Ora (Thompson) Elliott and was raised on his family’s farm in Gallipolis, Ohio.
His career began on the construction of Interstate 77, where he laid down roots that would grow into a long and fulfilling professional journey. Red's work took him to the former Goshen Dairy and Marlite Corporation, but it was his 42 years at the Times Reporter in New Philadelphia that cemented his reputation as a dedicated employee. Rising to the position of Distribution Manager, he earned respect and admiration from co-workers and friends alike.
Beyond his long work career, Red was a man of many passions. He found joy in the great outdoors, where he loved to fish and hunt deer or turkey. Summers were particularly special; they were filled with hard work in his flourishing garden. Red had a remarkable talent for overplanting an array of vegetables, often providing enough to share with the entire neighborhood. He enjoyed attending gun shoots with his brothers and friends and motorcycle rides with his brothers, Charlie and James. These were cherished moments, thick with memories of adventure and brotherhood.
A true handyman at heart, Red had an uncanny ability to fix just about anything. His daughters now find themselves with his legacy of outdated and non-running mowers, engines, and assorted vehicles all of which are reminders of their father's handyman prowess and boundless enthusiasm for tinkering.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Red remember him not only for his talents but also for his vibrant personality. He was well-liked, known for his great sense of humor and the ease with which he made friends wherever he went. His laughter and smile were infectious, bringing joy to those around him.
On July 1, 1962, Red married M. Isabelle Gamble and together they shared over 36 years of marriage until her passing on August 13, 1998. Surviving are their two daughters, Robin (Perry) Waltz and Sherry (Kent) Pongrat both of New Philadelphia; his two grandchildren, Sydney Waltz and her fiancé Randy Miller of Queens, New York and Boston (Cailin) Waltz of Fort Mill, South Carolina; his sister, Joyce (Greg) Browning-Mantor of New Albany; his brother, James (Sharon) Elliott of Dover; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Red was preceded in death by his siblings, LeRoy Elliott, Vivian Benson, Florence Clay, Pearl Leifhiet, Charles Elliott and Emmett Elliott.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation care is to be provided by the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia. The family will host a reception and celebration of Red’s life on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 1 to 4 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Park Village Health Care at Dover and Crossroad’s Hospice for their excellent care and concern.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation, P.O. Box 871847, Kansas City, MO 64187.
