Carolyn Sue Christmas, age 62, of Mineral City, died peacefully in her home, with her family at her side, in the early morning hours of June 1, 2011.A daughter of the late John Woods and Goldie (Blair) and George Haggard, Carolyn was born on June 12, 1948, at Princeton, Indiana.On July 3, 1968, Carolyn married the love of her life, Robert Christmas. Together the couple raised nine children and shared in nearly 32 years of marriage prior to Robert’s passing on June 12, 2000.She graduated from Mount Carmel High School at Mount Carmel, Illinois and continued her formal education at Buckeye Career Center at Byesville, Ohio. It was there; Carolyn earned her certification as a Nursing Assistant and went on to work for numerous nursing facilities in Ohio and Illinois. Caring for others was a calling and passion for Carolyn.In her free time, Carolyn enjoyed watching the Food Network on television and won the hearts of her family through her skills in the kitchen. She enjoyed the summer months where she spent time gardening and subsequently canned and preserved many of the items which were grown under her care and attention. Additionally, she had collected numerous boxes of angel figurines throughout the years and carefully cataloged each one when she received them as gifts. Moreover, Carolyn enjoyed being the entertainer and play-mate to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Carolyn’s memory will long live on through her nine children; Samuel Christmas of Las Vegas, Nevada, Allen (Jan) Christmas of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Martha (Mike) Lancaster of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Katie (Bill) Cantrell of Evansville, Indiana, Angela (Earl) Hall of Port Charlotte, Florida. Robert (David McLelland) Christmas of Wadsworth, Ohio, George (Miranda) Christmas of Mineral City, Ohio, Goldie Christmas of Bluefield, West Virginia, and Holly (Samuel) Weiss of Uhrichsville, Ohio.Three brothers, Jackie Woods, George Haggard, and Tommy Haggard; a sister, Naomi Cox; 24 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one niece and numerous nephews complete the family.In addition to her parents and husband, Carolyn was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie and Arlene.Graveside services will be held in the Liberty Cemetery at Cynthiana, Indiana where the Short Funeral Home of Mt. Carmel, Illinois will be handling service arrangements. The family requests that memorial contributions in Carolyn’s name be directed to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W Third Street, Dover, Ohio 44622 in gratitude for their care and compassion during Carolyn’s illness.
