Caroline “Carrie” Anna Hensel, age 75, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, November 22, 2011 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a five year battle with lung cancer.A daughter of the late George and Anna Nussdorfer Albaugh, Carrie was born at Dover, Ohio on November 3, 1936. She grew up on the family farm outside of New Philadelphia and was a 1954 graduate of Dover High School.She worked for the State Unemployment Agency and the former Warner & Swasey Company at New Philadelphia prior to completing a 28 year career in the accounting department with Union Hospital at Dover.Family came first with Carrie as she devoted a large amount of her time to caring for her son following a debilitating accident. She also was an avid supporter of her grandson’s sporting and school activities. Additionally, Carrie enjoyed planting and caring for flowers, traveling, taking trips to Wheeling Island, socializing with her friends and enjoying the companionship of her dog, Heidi.She was a long-time member of the Midvale United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s Society as well as the Union Hospital Retirees Association, where she served many years as the organization’s treasurer.She will be missed by her husband, Harold, whom she married on December 23, 1963; a daughter, Karis (Don) Crites of Tuscarawas; a son, Kevin Clapper of New Philadelphia; a grandson, Kolton Crites also of Tuscarawas and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Kay Hensel of Kent, Ohio.Other survivors include special friends, Carolyn Weist, Marti McCahill, the Friday Night Dinner Club, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, Carrie was preceded in death by an infant son; an infant sister, and two sisters, Clata Pauline Lockhart and Ruth Hawk.The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 27, 2011 from 1-3 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Lyle Warren will lead a funeral service celebrating Carrie’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Sunday at 3 PM.
