Carol M. Beitzel

May 16, 1934 — March 30, 2018

A celebration of the life of Carol M. Beitzel will be held Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel in Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with Pastor Jeffrey Gerber officiating. Calling hours will be from 10-11 a.m.

Carol Marie was born on May 16, 1934 at Dover, Ohio and died March 30, 2018 after a period of declining health.

She and her brother David were raised by their loving parents, Homer C. and Emma M. (Stoller) Beitzel, on their family farm in the Oldtown Valley south of New Philadelphia.

Carol, 83, was a member of the New Philadelphia High School’s Class of 1952, where she was a classmate of her dear friend and cousin, Marilyn Arbogast.

Carol was a longtime member of the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia. She also had belonged to the Union Grange in Oldtown Valley and the Dover-New Philadelphia Business and Professional Women’s Association while she worked in the offices of several area insurance agencies.

Carol loved crafts, quilting and her family history. She was recognized for her contributions to the “Ancestry and Family History of Frederick W. Beitzel Sr. and Annie E. Ankney Beitzel” that was published in 2001.

Carol was elected several times to the position of York Township clerk and served for 20 years. She had the privilege of working with many great trustees during her tenure and helping them manage township business.

Carol is survived by countless cousins, including Marilyn Arbogast, Lavonne Troendly, Karen Welch and Linda Beitzel, all of New Philadelphia; Debbie Beitzel of Tuscarawas; Steve Pollock, Brad Pollock and Kathy Roberts, all of Indianapolis; Jan Beitzel of South Carolina; and Michael Beitzel of Texas, as well as many old friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her mother in 1966, her father in 1985 and her brother in 1986.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 422, New Philadelphia, or to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia.
