Carol Joanne Vance, 61, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, September 18, 2003, two days before her 62nd birthday. Her family surrounded her as she ended her courageous battle with cancer.Born September 20, 1941, in Massillon, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Earnest and Ruth Marie Hanson Irvin.A retired employee of the New Philadelphia City School District, Carol was a car show enthusiast and, with her husband, was responsible for organizing and perpetuating the annual car show at New Philadelphia’s First Town Days Festival.She is survived by her husband, Larry Vance; daughters, Brenda (Ted) Polka of New Philadelphia and Becky (Jamie) Miller of Dover; son, Dave (Karen) Vance of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Brian (Trisha) Polka, Stacie (Mike) Quillin, Leslie Polka, Adam Miller, Abby Miller, Alix Miller, Stephanie Vance, and Matthew(Yvonne) Vance; grandchildren, Blake and Kayla Polka, Carter Quillin, Triston Hunter, and Madison Vance; a sister, Nancy (Doug) Maier of Massillon; and the two family dogs, Penny and Patches.In addition to her parents, a grandchild, Logan Broome, and an infant sister, Patty Irvin, preceded Carol in death.Services will be conducted by Pastor Glen R. Shedlock on Monday, September 22, 2003, at 10:30 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib chapel with burial at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. A reception at the Geib Family Center will follow the committal. Friends may call at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday afternoon, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.
