Carol J. Petricola, age 84, of Dover, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, June 18, 2009, in Country Club Retirement Center at Dover with her family at her side. Born at her Midvale family home August 19, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Edward L. and Marbell G. Snyder Hykes. Carol graduated from Midvale High School in 1943. A member of the First Baptist Church at New Philadelphia for more than 60 years, she will be remembered for her service in the Bible Publishing ministry, for her work as a volunteer secretary at Indian Hills Christian School, and for her membership in the Wednesday morning Bible Study. A homemaker for most of her life, Carol did work outside of the home for a decade at the Tuscarawas County Health Department, serving in the bureau of Vital Statistics. She was also affiliated with the former Siff’s Shoe Store and Hurst Insurance Agency. Carol’s family will remember her enjoyment of knitting, gardening, playing games with her family and friends, visiting shut-ins at nursing homes, and volunteering for Mobile Meals for 12 years. On June 26, 1949, Carol married Joseph “Rig” Petricola. The couple was married more than 28 years before his sudden death in April 1978.Together, they reared a family that includes a daughter, Sally (husband Robert) Beckley, and a son, Brad E. (wife, Dixie) Petricola, all of Dover. Five grandchildren, Jasmin, Matthew and Nicole Petricola and Brian and Alex Beckley, as well as three sisters, Myrtle Zorn, Ruth (husband Joe) Coniglio, and Patricia Carpenter, complete the family. In addition to her parents and husband, Carol is preceded in death by an infant son, Ricky Petricola, as well as eight brothers and three sisters. Friends are invited to call Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Byron Stewart will lead Mrs. Petricola’s funeral ceremony Monday afternoon at 1:30 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.
