Carol Ann Fox, 76, of New Philadelphia passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 in Schoenbrunn Health Care Center at New Philadelphia while in the care of Community Hospice. While Carol fought a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s it was ultimately a recent illness which resulted in a significant decline in her health.
A daughter of the late Forrest A. and Maude L. (Merkle) Sanders, Carol was born January 16, 1940 at Union Hospital in Dover.
Carol graduated as the Quaker Girl from New Philadelphia High School in 1958. She went on to become a registered nurse by graduating from the Akron City School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for 50 years at Union Hospital. After retirement she continued to serve the people of New Philadelphia by becoming a caregiver and patient sitter.
Carol had many talents and hobbies. She enjoyed music, and was able to play the bassoon, organ and piano. Carol also loved to read and go bird hiking with her husband. She was an active life member of the First United Methodist Church, where she went on a mission trip to Honduras, sang in the choir, and served on several committees.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Jack Fox, whom she married on September 16, 1961; two sons, John C. (Lisa) Fox and Steven M. Fox; two grandsons, Sean M. and Christopher J. Fox; a sister, Karen (Bill) Murphy; a brother-in-law, Bill (Bonnie) Fox; nephews, Mark (Tammy) Murphy, Michael (Tracie) Murphy, Justin (Heather) Fox and Nathan Fox; a niece, Heather Fox and several great-nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
In keeping with Carol’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours or services and cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Private inurnment will take place in East Avenue Cemetery.
