Carol Ann Mathias

Carol Ann Mathias of Columbus and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, September 19, 2007 in Mt. Carmel East Hospital at Columbus.Born March 5, 1933 in New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late David Hamilton and Nell Cotham Hamilton Gaither. After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1951, she attended Akron City School of Nursing before marrying the love of her life, Earl E. Mathias on December 21, 1952. Together, Ed and Carol Ann enjoyed traveling to New Mexico to visit Carol Ann’s sister, Joyce Kilgore. There, they became enthralled in the Southwest culture, visiting St. Bonaventure Indian Mission and School. Carol Ann was an avid supporter of the school from that point forward. They also enjoyed collecting folk art and antiques. In the late 70s, she and three other friends opened Bexley Antiques in Bexley, OH. Carol Ann and Ed also participated in numerous antique shows where they bought and sold antiques, especially throughout the Midwest region. Together with her husband, Carol Ann reared their son, Cary (Ruza) Mathias of Strongsville. She enjoyed her grandchildren, Kelson, Lily, and Christina Mathias, all residing in Ohio. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Kilgore of New Mexico; her brother-in-law, Lee (Marilyn) Mathias of New Philadelphia; a sister, in-law, Mary Jo (Ted) Lyons of Troy, Ohio; and nieces and nephews, Anne and Kathleen Kilgore and Mike, Tim, and Amy Lyons.Memorial visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home chapel at New Philadelphia on Sunday, September 23, 2007 from 3 to 4 p.m. A reception will immediately follow in the Geib Family Center.In honoring Carol Ann’s passion for the school, please direct memorial contributions to St. Bonaventure Indian Mission & School, P.O.
