Born at Piedmont, Ohio, January 8, 1925, he was a son of the late Lyman and Corella Dunn Brokaw. Carl went to school at the former Tuscarawas/Warwick Schools before embarking on a thirty-seven and a half year career with Marlite, during which time he also managed life as a farmer that would span forty-eight years.
