Carl Richard “Crabby” Crabbs, 49, of Dover died Sunday January 22, 2006.Born June 7, 1956 at Dennison, Ohio, he was the son of the late Dr. Carl W. and Dorothy M. Crabbs formerly of Carrollton. A graduate of Carrollton High School Richard most recently was employed by the Timken Company at Canton in its Faircrest steel manufacturing operations. Prior to his work with the Timken Company, Richard was affiliated with the former Carrollton Hardware, Coley’s Stag, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and T.G.I. Friday’s where he was responsible for opening several of their locations throughout the Eastern United States. Richard was a talented musician, having played in numerous bands including The Strange Rangers for many years. Richard had a passion for many things including nature. He enjoyed golf and kayaking and sharing his many talents with all he encountered within various charitable organizations. Making wine, painting, gourmet cooking and writing poetry were other endeavors which will be long remembered by those who knew and loved him. He brought joy and laughter to those around him by creating various impromptu performances. He would rather be remembered with a laugh than a tear.Richard is survived by his daughter, Erin Taylor of Dover; his fiancé Judy Basiewicz Wassem, of the home, and her children, Christine and Rylan Wassem and Nathan Fensler, two sisters, Darlene (Rod) Cairns of Dellroy, and Karen (Jim) Wagner of Malvern; a grandson, Jaiden Sneed; numerous family and friends and his brown dog, Marley.Family and friends are invited to call Friday morning January 27, 2006 from 9:30 until 10:30 AM in the Geib Funeral Center at 5600 North Wooster Avenue at Dover. The Rev. Hugh B. Berry will officiate a Celebration of Life at 10:30 AM. Following the ceremony, the family will host a reception at the funeral center. In keeping with Richard’s wishes, cremation will follow. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd St. Dover, OH 44622.
