Carl G. “Bud” Eichel

Carl Gene “Bud” Eichel, age 87, of Dover, died unexpectedly , on his farm, while feeding his cows, early Thursday evening, December 1, 2016.

 

A son of the late Max L. and Bernice E. McMurray Eichel, Bud was born on December 30, 1928 in New Philadelphia.

 

He was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School and honorably served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1950-1954. On April 9, 1952, Bud married Gwendolyn J. Straight and together the coupled raised six children.

 

Bud was employed by East Ohio Gas for more than 30 years. He was a member of First Christian Church at Dover, the Tuscarawas County Pork Producers, and the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge BPOE 510. Bud greatly enjoyed working on his farm, being in nature, lending a helping hand to anyone in need and had been bestowed the title, “Mayor of Blacksnake” by his neighbors. Above all else, Bud loved his family deeply and cherished time spent with them.

 

In addition to his wife, of 64 years, Gwen, he is survived by their six children, Sheila Smitley, Ginnie (Mark) Porter,  Colin (Kathy) Eichel, and Judie (Matt) Fox all of Dover, Shannon (Real) van Breda of Grandview, TN, and Susan Eichel of Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and his dogs, Mikey and Topsy complete the family.

 

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Eichel and Beverly Wertman, and a son-in-law, Larry Smitley.

 

The family will greet guests on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 from 4-7 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A private graveside service will take place at a later date in East Avenue Cemetery where military honors will be rendered.

 

Memorial contributions in Bud’s name may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
