Carilyn Rhea Meese

Carilyn Rhea Meese, age 87, formerly of Brightwood, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009 in Union Hospital at Dover.Born in Akron, Ohio on April 10, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Howard Dewey and Edna Leona (Tonks) Proctor. After completing her formal education at Buchtel High School in Akron, Carilyn married her late husband, Hugh J. Meese, with whom she celebrated more than 60 years of marriage prior to his death on June 7, 2007.She was a member of the National AARP and Midvale United Methodist Church. Carilyn was a devoted member of the church where she was active in the United Methodist Women’s group and was a founding member of the candy-making group. Throughout her lifetime, she greatly enjoyed making cookies and candy for her friends and family. In more recent years, she had a love for playing Bingo, also. She is survived by her sons, Dan (Bonnie) Meese of Milton, W. VA. and David (Ruth) Meese of New Philadelphia; sisters-in-law, Janice Polos, of Janesville, WI., and Joan Meese, of Brightwood; grandchildren Michelle Meese and Scott (Courtney) Meese, both of Barboursville, W. VA. and Gregory (Nicole) Meese, of Brightwood; and great-grandchildren, Alexis, Edie, Vincent, and Zane.In addition to her parents and husband, Carilyn was preceded in death by her son, Larry H. Meese, and her twin sister, Marilyn.Visitation will be held Thursday, June 18, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday, June 19 beginning at 1pm. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Friends and family are then invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, where a meal will be provided by Carilyn’s church family.In memory of Carilyn, her family requests memorial contributions be directed to the Midvale United Methodist Church, 4383 State Ave. SE, PO Box 247, Midvale, Ohio 44653.Those unable to attend are invited to send the family personal condolences by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.
