Calvin Price

October 21, 1953 — July 26, 2007

Rocky Price lead a life that motivated others to be faithful servants, loving spouses, and caring Christians. The 53 year-old died Thursday morning, July 26, 2007, following an apparent heart attack. As the paramedics raced to get to his home, Rocky calmly called his wife of thirty-five years, the former Vicki Meese, and told her that he was going to the hospital, and that everything would be alright. Rocky’s earthly life came to an end en route to Union Hospital. Many would suggest that Rocky died long before his time. His young age suggests the same, but those who knew him are well aware that he never took a moment of his life for granted, and that he looked at life as a blessing whether he spent it with his family and friends, or whether he spent it in service to others. Born October 21, 1953 at Dover, Rocky was named Calvin Albert Price by his parents, the late Vernon E. and Margaret A. Lab Price. After completing his formal education at New Philadelphia High School, he joined the work force, most recently working as a talented heavy equipment operator for the Huhlin Company. He was a member of the Ohio Operating Engineers Union.Rocky was married February 26, 1972 in the First Church of God on Tuscarawas Avenue. The Price family worshipped at the church, but served God in many places and capacities. Rocky was the organizer of Helping Hands at both the First United Methodist Church and the First Church of God. The group assisted people who needed odd jobs completed around their home. His love for the Lord also shined through him as he lead many Sunday School classes and delivered countless Children’s Sermons on Sunday mornings. He was also a ferverent prayer warrior, participating in numerous prayer groups throughout the community. Rocky loved his family very much and instilled in them the values and faith most important to him. Fishing, Harley motorcycle riding, woodworking and rubber stamping were among the activities he enjoyed with his family. Together Rocky and Vicki reared a loving and devoted family that includes his sons, Daniel (family friend, Stephanie Heston) Price of Sherrodsville and Joe (Jennifer) Price of Bolivar and his daughter, Jennifer (Todd) Callentine of Dover; and his grandchildren, Christine, Ashley, Adam, Canaan, Cassidy, Andrew, Aaron, Joey, Josh, and Ethan. He will also be greatly missed by his siblings including Robert (Sharon) Price and Martin (Diane) Price, both of New Philadelphia and Arthur (Cheryl) Price of Canton; his half brother and half sister, Jim (Rowena) Price of Howard, Ohio and Wilda Leeper of New Jersey; his uncle, Ivor (Josephine) Lab of Winfield, and brothers-in-law, William (Bertha) Meese of Dennison and Ron (Barbara) Meese of Orient, Ohio. In addition to his parents, Rocky was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret, and his mother and father-in-law, Clarence Meese and Dora (Meese) Wilson.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Sunday, July 29, 2007 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. A memorial service celebrating Rocky’s life will be held in the First Church of God at New Philadelphia on Monday beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Matthew Roe officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. A private inurnment will take place at Roxford Church Cemetery on Monday. The Price family requests memorial contributions be directed to the American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad Street, Canfield, OH 44406.
