Bruno Fragasse

Bruno Fragasse, 82, of 5062 Stillwood Dr., Nashville, TN, 37220, died Sunday, November 17, 2002, due to complications of pneumonia.Born in New Philadelphia, on February 12, 1920, he was a son of the late Pasquale and Elizabeth Antonelli Fragasse. Bruno was a 1938 graduate of Dover High School and in 1942, he joined the U.S. Air Force serving as a 1st Lieutenant, first as a fighter pilot and then as a pilot instructor during WWII. After his service to the country, he was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service in Nashville where he retired. He also was a member of the catholic Cathedral of the Incarnation.Bruno enjoyed golf, following sports for many years, and baking bread to share with friends. One of his greatest joys was working in his unique garden and sharing his tomatoes, garlic and other vegetables with his family, neighbors, and friends. He was featured in a TV documentary as one of Nashville’s Top Gardeners.Surviving is his wife, Jewell Patterson Fragasse, whom he wed on November 7, 1944; a daughter, Becky Fragasse, of Nashville, TN; a sister, Viola DiGenova of New Philadelphia; and two brothers, Henry “Hank” Fragasse of Dover, and Orlando “Peach” Fragasse of New Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.In addition to his parents, Bruno was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Cipriano, Italia Helen West, and Pauldina Berndt, and brothers, Joe, Lewis, Nello, Harment, and Pasquale Jr. A funeral service was held Tuesday, November 19, 2002, at 1 PM, in the Woodlawn Chapel of Roses, with Rev. Joseph Patrick Breen, Rev. Dave McIntyre and Rev. Jim Kinnon officiating. Nephews and friends served as active pallbears and honorary pallbearers were Railway Mail Service retirees. Visitation was held on Monday, November 18, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Woodlawn Funeral Home in Nashville, TN.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Father William Fleming Center, Cathedral of the Incarnation, 2001 West End Ave., Nashville, TN, 37203.
