Britt Caroline Stratton, died early Saturday morning, July 30, 2016, in the Hospice House at New Philadelphia, with her devoted husband John by her side.
Britt was born in Montreal, Canada to Swedish parents and was raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She attended the University of Minnesota where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics with top honors. She taught junior high and high school for several years in Minnesota.
She met John William Stratton through her cousin in Chevy Chase, Maryland and they were married in 1971. They lived in Bowe, Maryland until they moved to New Philadelphia in 1975 when John purchased Stratton Merchandise.
Britt was at heart a homemaker, mother and active member of the community. Her activities over the years included Tuscarawas County Homemakers and 4-H Clubs, Newcomers Club and volunteer activities with the Ohio Cooperative Extension Service.
Britt also raised money for the American Cancer Society, reflecting her ongoing battles with cancer, from her initial treatment at the age of 21.
She is survived by her husband John Stratton of New Philadelphia and Punta Gorda, Florida; sister Mona-Lisa Regier of Nampa, Idaho; daughter Elyse Stratton of San Francisco; and son and daughter-in-law, Tyler Stratton and Momoe Murakata Stratton of Seattle.
A casual cake and coffee reception will be held in the Geib Family Center in New Philadelphia, located adjacent to the funeral home where the family will receive friends between 3 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 6.
