Brent Wesley Haver

Brent Wesley Haver, 39, of Dover, died Monday, July 11, 2016 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a recent illness.

A son of Wesley and Rise` Jean (Steele) Haver of New Philadelphia, Brent was born September 1, 1976 at Dover, Ohio.

Brent graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1994, where he was known by classmates as the “Gentle Giant.”  He was a member of the New Philadelphia football team and was the starting center wearing the number 50.  He won various awards during his football career including All Federal League Center and the Bill Kidd Award for the most outstanding lineman.  He played in the Times Reporter East-West Charity All Star game and was also nominated to play in the Ohio North-South All Star game.  Brent was a four year letterman of the track team and was a member of the Homecoming Court his senior year.  In his younger years, he played Little League Baseball at Midvale where he was voted to the All Star team several years.

Following graduation from high school, Brent attended and graduated from Traynor’s Police Academy where he was awarded the “Top Gun” award for accuracy.  He worked at Belden Brick Company for 16 years and worked as a police officer at Bolivar and Sugarcreek for 12 years.

Brent was an avid gun enthusiast and marksman and he also enjoyed collecting guns and knives.  He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid survivalist.  He was an excellent artist; he enjoyed Star Trek and batman as well as reading.

On April 28, 2001, Brent married the love of his life, Marcy (Oberhaus) Haver and the couple have two daughters, Makayla and Madelyn.  He is also survived by his parents; his sister, Danielle (Earl) Zwissler of Mogadore and their children, Ariana and Logan; his grandmother, Norma Jean Steele of Uhrichsville; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wesley and Karen Oberhaus of New Philadelphia; a brother-in-law, Michael (Brenda) Harsanje of Florida and their children, Elizabeth and Vincent and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Brent was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Nancy Haver and Malcolm Steele.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.  A funeral service celebrating Brent’s life will be held on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with his Uncle Blaine Steele officiating.  Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.  Following the committal service a luncheon will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Brent W. Haver Memorial Fund, c/o First Federal Community Bank, 244 West High Avenue, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 to benefit his children in their future educational endeavors.
