Bonnie Lou Mahaffey

June 18, 1941 — June 5, 2014

Bonnie Lou Mahaffey, age 72, of Dover, died Thursday, June 05, 2014, in her residence following a period of declining health.

Born at Canton, Ohio on June 18, 1941, Bonnie is a daughter of the late Robert Samuel and Leona Marjorie (Neading) Shelker.

Bonnie was a 1959 graduate of Sandy Valley High School where she played French Horn in the marching band. Following graduation, she trained for and obtained her LPN at Coshocton. Professionally, she served as an LPN where she retired from the former Morning View Care Center following 31 years of service.

She was a life-long member of Asbury Methodist Church at East Sparta. She previously served as President for the local AARP Chapter, past Matron of the Eastern Star #368 at Bolivar, past Treasurer of the Navy Mothers of Ohio and served on the Board of Directors for the Tuscarawas Philharmonic. Above all, she enjoyed watching and supporting Cleveland sports teams and being with her family.

She is survived by three children, Robert (Patti) Mahaffey of Dover, Lea (Brian) Marburger of Brewster, and Renee (Kristaver) Beahm of New Philadelphia; a brother, Robert (LaVonne) Shelker of Scottsdale, Arizona; 14 grandchildren, Sean (Heather), Ti’anna, Brody, Courtney, Amanda (Jeff), Melissa, Jessica, Cody, Gunnar, Hunter, Dakota (Jason), Sierra (Scott), Cheyenne, and Kerriah; 12 great-great grandchildren and 2 expected great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest “Skip” Mahaffey and her twin sister, Beverly McGuire.

A memorial service, lead by Pastor George Reichman will be held in the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 501 N Second Street, Dennison, Ohio 44621 on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 11:00 AM where the family will greet guests one hour prior to the service. Immediately following the service, all are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in the church social hall. Cremation has been conducted through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.

Memorial contributions in Bonnie’s name may be directed to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Green, Ohio 44685.
