Bonnie Lou Douds-Mason-Brown, age 69, of New Philadelphia, entered into her final reward following a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, in her home with her family at her side. A daughter of George E. Douds and Ruth V. Douds-Mackey and the adoptive daughter of Roger and Florence Meininger Mason, Bonnie was born at Cleveland, Ohio on June 22, 1941. She was a 1959 graduate of Dover High School and upon graduation attended Canton Beauty School. Bonnie, later obtained an Associate Degree of Nursing from Kent State University and completed her formal education with a Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of Akron. For more than 30 years, Bonnie worked in the nursing field spending 15 years with Union Hospital at Dover and later took employment for 16 years with the Veteran’s Administration where she worked in the Wade Park and Brecksville Hospital facilities. In her spare time, Bonnie enjoyed reading the scriptures, knitting, attending craft shows, camping trips with her family and giving generously to all those around her. Bonnie will be greatly missed by her family which includes two daughters, Dalene (Sylvester) Young of New Philadelphia and Rhonda K. (Sheridan “Tom”) Wilcox of Dover; a son, Larry (Janice) Brown of Ravenna; and a sister, Patricia (Sumanta) Sarkoi of Charlotte, NC. Eleven grandchildren, Amanda (AJ) Currie of Texas, Renee (Billy) Hoffman of Plain Township, Canton, Paul (Katherine) Hinkley of Hawaii, Michael (companion, Katie) Rucker of Cuyahoga Falls, Nathan Rucker of New Philadelphia, Chelci Edmonds of Akron, Marianne (Curtis) Bishop of Ravenna, John (Bambi) Brown of Ravenna, Anthony and Christopher Anderson both of New Philadelphia, and Gabrielle Hinkley of Newcomerstown; four great-grandchildren, Michele Brown, Caehdryc Hinkley, Ella Bishop, Nichole Bishop; a nephew, Stephen Peck of Upper Sandusky and her dog, Buddy, complete the family. In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by: a granddaughter, Melissa Brown; the love of her life, Shelby Allen, and her cat, Lil Wuss. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Saturday, March 5, 2011, from 12:30 Â? 1:30 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Bishop Brent Meeke will lead a funeral service celebrating Bonnie’s life in the funeral home’s chapel at 1:30 p.m. Entombment will follow in the Dover Burial Park.
