Bonnie Hendershot

September 20, 1949 — August 28, 2017

Bonnie Lee Hendershot, 67, of Strasburg, died Monday, August 28, 2017 in her home, surrounded by her family, following a hard-fought battle with cancer.

A daughter of the late Roland “Baldy” and Gladys Workman Baker, Bonnie was born in Union Hospital at Dover on September 20, 1949.

Bonnie graduated from Strasburg Franklin Schools. While attending an event at Columbia Skateland, Bonnie met her future husband, James Hendershot. On July 20, 1968, the couple married and raised three children and recently celebrated 49 years of marriage.

Bonnie attended Faith Baptist Church at Zoar. She loved supporting her family and served for many years as an advisor to the 4-H Trailblazers. Having her family nearby was important to Bonnie and through the years, had the opportunity to care for her grandchildren and watch them grow.

She will be remembered for her cooking and baking skills and the generous amounts of hard tack candy, cookies and other treats she and her family made at Christmas time. Bonnie also enjoyed camping, sewing, canning, cheering for the Cleveland Indians, following NASCAR and spoiling her dogs, Tanner and Zoe.

In addition to her beloved husband, Jim, Bonnie is survived by their children, Sandy (Donnie) Himes of Zoarville, Jim (Amy) Hendershot of New Philadelphia, and Doug Hendershot of Strasburg; her beloved grandchildren, Kaci Himes, Morgan (Caleb) Downing, Whitney Hendershot, Brynn Hendershot, Tyler Hendershot and Paiten Hendershot.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Baker and a brother, Roland “Baldy” Baker, Jr.

In keeping with Bonnie’s wishes there will be no public visitation or services. Cremation will take place through the care of the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Private inurnment in Ft. Laurens Cemetery will take place.
