Bobbie Ellen Lax, age 75, of Dover, died unexpectedly, in her residence, on Saturday evening, August 24, 2024.
A daughter of the late Robert Breitenstein and Dorothy Mason Breitenstein, Bobbie was born in Union Hospital at Dover, Ohio on March 1, 1949.
She was a 1967 graduate of Dover High School and for a brief period put her love for all animals to use as a dog groomer. She later worked for the former TG&Y store and was one of the first employees brought on at Walmart where she worked for more than 20 years until her retirement.
To know Bobbie was to be well aware of her quick wit, love of jokes, and great sense of humor. It was easy for her to make new friends as she never met a stranger and throughout her life was blessed with many special relationships, including the special bond with her best friend, her late sister, Diane Herman. It has been said Bobbie and Diane shared their own language and could be having two different conversations with one another at the same time and still know what the other was talking about.
Bobbie had several great loves in her life including the wildlife that surrounded her home. As an animal lover, she enjoyed keeping the deer and birds well-fed and lovingly cared for her indoor pets as well. Her greatest love was her family. Her companion of 30 years, Dave “Heavy Duty” Roberts caught her eye on their first date, July 23, 1994, and as a couple have traveled to all 48 continental states, parts of Canada, pontoon boated on the Ohio River, and camped at countless parks and lakes. Bobbie also had a deep and devoted love to her family and grandchildren and enjoyed many activities and outings through the years. In addition to her family, friends, Dave, and animals, Bobbie never turned down any opportunities to share time with her favorite cold treat… ice cream. Of course, if you invited Bobbie anywhere, you could expect her to be late as she never left the house without her clothes, hair, makeup, and nails being just right.
In addition to her companion Dave “Heavy Duty” Roberts of Dover, Bobbie leaves behind a son, Robert (Natalie) Lax of Dover; granddaughters, Hannah (Brandon) Yoder of Dover, and Abby (fiancé, Dan Redmond) of New Philadelphia; Dave’s daughter, Amy Jo (Robert) Barrick; Amy’s daughters, Madison Barrick and Taylor (Andrew) Barrick Pemberton all of Ashville, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Gary Herman of Macon, Georgia; her special cousins, the Springers, numerous nieces and a nephew, and countless friends.
In addition to her parents and sister, Bobbie was preceded in death by her son, William “Billy” Lax, III.
In keeping with Bobbie’s wishes there will be no public services. A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at a later date. The Geib Funeral Center at Dover is handling cremation care.
Memorial contributions in Bobbie’s name may be directed to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Road NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
