Bill McCreery

November 27, 1948 — October 8, 2011

Bill McCreery, age 62, of Barnhill, passed away early Saturday evening, October 8, 2011 in Union Hospital at Dover following an extended illness as a consequence of exposure to Agent Orange in the Vietnam War. Born Finley William McCreery on November 27, 1948, at Dover, he was a son of the late Marvin and Mae Thomas McCreery. Best known as Bill to his family and friends, he attended school at Mineral City until his interest in mechanics of cars and their engines took precedence. In 1966, Bill’s draft number was called and he became a member of the United States Army. Deployed to Vietnam, Bill was heavily exposed to Agent Orange, and suffered from a lifetime of challenges as a result. On New Year’s Day, 1969, Bill married Georgia Aubihl, and the couple has observed forty-two anniversaries since. Together, they made their home in Barnhill. Bill worked for two decades for A.J. Cinson Construction, and also was a long haul truck-driver for hire for many years. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Local #92. Bill enjoyed fishing, following NASCAR, and spending time with his loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his pet dogs, Sadie and Jojo. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons and a daughter; Bill (wife, Angela) Aubihl of Dover, Finley “Lee” (wife, Misty) McCreery II of New Philadelphia, and Jeanne (husband, Keith) Anderson of Barnhill. He’ll be sadly missed by his twelve grandchildren; Carol, Billy, Dusty, David, Brittany, Ben, Tessa, Vanessa, Brandon, Natalie, Drake and Leland. Two great-grandchildren; Kaydee and Oli, also survive. Two brothers, Marvin McCreery Jr and David McCreery, both of Mineral City, and three sisters; Edna Barbee of Columbus, Maxine (husband, Jerry) Elliott of Mineral City, and Connie (husband, Dan) Knepper of East Sparta, and numerous nieces and nephews complete the family. Friends are invited to call Thursday, October 13, from 6-7PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Brian Flood will lead Mr. McCreery’s memorial service at 7PM Thursday in the funeral home’s chapel. VFW Post 1445 will render military honors at the funeral home’s flagpole following the service. Family and friends will gather for a dinner reception in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home, at the conclusion of military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate 5455 North High Street Columbus, OH 43214.Linn-Hert-Geib(330) 343-5506www.geibcares.com
