Beverly J. Turner, age 72, of New Philadelphia, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2008 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a brief illness.Born March 6, 1936 in New Philadelphia, Beverly was the fifth of six children of the late Clayton and Lucille (Robeson) Edwards.After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1954, Beverly began her professional career in banking. She worked at many area banks throughout the community as a manager.Beverly met her husband, Fred D. Turner, while she was at Tuscora Park. On November 10, 1956, they were married in the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia and enjoyed 51 years of marriage together. They were blessed with two children, Anna L. (husband, Brian) Barkley of Stillwater and Todd R. Turner of Akron. Beverly had a special place in her life for her loving granddaughter, Rachel E. Barkley. Beverly was a member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge and also the Books and Brunch book club. She was also a lifelong member of the First United Church of Christ. In addition, Beverly was a Reiki Karuna advisor and instructor participating as a member in the Massillon Reiki group.Jewelry, decorating, homemaking and reading were all areas of interest in Beverly’s life. She enjoyed hosting wine and cheese parties and having her brother, Gerald, over to the house for coffee. Christmas cookie baking and cooking were also passions of her life. Most importantly, Beverly loved her family. She had a knack for making friends and no one was a stranger to her.Her life was blessed by her husband, children, and granddaughter in addition to her siblings, Gerald Edwards and C. Clair (wife, Beverly) Edwards, both of New Philadelphia; her brother-in-law, Frank (wife, Barbara) Turner of North Canton; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lillian Burrier, her brothers, Robert and Paul Edwards, and her special aunt, Bernice Robeson.A service celebrating Beverly’s life will be held on Monday, September 22, 2008 in the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia with the Revs. Jeffrey Gerber and Jill Lovett officiating. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Friends and family are invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, following the committal service where a meal will be shared by Beverly’s friends and family. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service and also Sunday in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia from 5 to 8 p.m. The Turner family requests memorial contributions be directed to the First United Church of Christ, 201 Fair Ave., New Philadelphia, Oh, 44663.
