Beverly Ann Wertman, 83, of Country Club Retirement Campus and formerly of Gnadenhutten, passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday morning, April 11, 2014 following a period of declining health.
Born at her family home in Oldtown Valley on July 18, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Max Leroy and Bernice Edie (McMurray) Eichel.
Beverly was a 1948 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. She then married her lifelong companion, the late Clifford L. Wertman, on September 30, 1948 in St. Peters Lutheran Church in the Oldtown Valley. Together with her husband, she enjoyed a life of caring for the home and her children, and working on the farm. After they retired, they spent many years in Florida before returning to Ohio in 1999.
Beverly was a beautiful, talented spirit that adored caring for her children and later in life, her grandchildren. She also was an expert mechanic. She also gave of her time with the Oldtown Homemakers Association where she was past president. The Wertmans’ attended Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church and were lifetime members of the Union Grange.
Beverly will be deeply missed by her children Cheryl (husband Tom) Korns of Dover, Chrystel Korns, and Carol (husband Randy) Eiler, both of New Philadelphia; her six grandchildren Thomas J. Korns and his companion Brenda Willis, Tiona (husband Todd) Campbell, Dale Korns, Jestin (wife Erica) Korns, Heather (husband Mike) Miltenberger and Joshua Eiler. Nine great-grandchildren, as well as her brother Carl (wife Gwen) Eichel, of Dover, complete the family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Eichel; her son-in-law, Raymond Dale Korns; and her sister-in-law, Reba (husband Ray) Stahl.
Cremation is planned, and the family will gather to receive friends Saturday, April 19, 2014, between 10 and 11 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia, where Pastor Doug Kilchenman will lead a memorial service celebrating Beverly’s life in the funeral home’s chapel at 11AM. Inurnment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.
Friends are invited to the Geib Family Center after the committal service where fellowship and a meal will be shared.
