Betty West

September 4, 1930 — December 16, 2016

Betty E. West, age 86, of formerly of New Philadelphia died peacefully, Friday, December 16, 2016, in Hennis Care Center at Dover following a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late John and Ruth (Sickle) Bailey, Betty was born at Byesville, Ohio September 4, 1930.

She was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School and in her younger years was a waitress at the former Dutch Oven at New Philadelphia, worked for Buehler’s Grocery and later was employed by the former Alsco at Sugarcreek. For a number of years, she relocated to Pennsylvania where she was active as a volunteer in many community organizations and worked as a data entry clerk.

Betty was known for her excellent cooking skills, her love of the game Bingo and singing in a local band once named “Country Four”, with her sons, which played for local events and venues around the area.

She is survived by her children, Janet Price of New Philadelphia, David (Colleen) Haugh of Rocky River, Dale R. Haugh of Uhrichsville; two step-sons, Jim and Tom West and their families; two sisters, Joanne (Jim) Robinson of TX and Linda (Dennis) Hockenberry of Strasburg; three brothers, Dale (Anna May) Bailey of GA, Jack (Mary Ann) Bailey of New Philadelphia, and Paul (Emily) Bailey of Beliot, OH.

Completing the family are seven grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas West; a sister, Bonnie Youngen; a son, Randy Haugh, and a son-in-law, Gary Price.

The family will greet guests on Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 2-4 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Mark Maddux will lead a service celebrating Betty’s life on Monday at 11 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Following the service, all are invited to share in a time of food and fellowship in the Social Hall of the New Philadelphia First Church of the Nazarene.

Memorial contributions in Betty’s name may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
