Betty Virginia West, 83, of Gnadenhutten, died Monday morning, March 17, 2008 in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover.A daughter of the late Otis and Olive (Mummey) Tipton, Betty was born April 10, 1924 at Gnadenhutten, Ohio.Betty graduated from Gnadenhutten High School in 1942. She married Howard Anderson West on August 15, 1948 and together they reared two children, a daughter, Theresa and a son Gail. Howard passed away on August 30, 1987.She was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church at Stillwater and was active with the Gnadenhutten Senior Citizens Group. Betty enjoyed crocheting and baking pies, which she would often donate to her church for various fundraising events. Most of all Betty dearly loved her grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them.She is survived by her children, Theresa (Jerald) Shonk of Gnadenhutten and Gail “Buzz” (Donna) West of Sherrodsville; four grandchildren, Barbara (Rob) Rennard of Port Washington, Michelle (Joe) Norfolk of North Canton, Carrie (Jason) Johnson of Bolivar and Chad H. West of Eagle River, Alaska; four great grandchildren, Corey and Seth Johnson and Breanna and Lane Rennard; one sister, Thelma Heck of Gnadenhutten and a brother, Robert Tipton of Klickitat, Washington.Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; a great grandson, Robert Allen Rennard and a son-in-law, Jon W. Fraelich.Family and friends may call on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Betty’s life will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Pastor David Koch officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
