Betty L. Thompson, age 85, of New Philadelphia, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024 in Ohio’s Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Chester Solomon and Lillian Marie (Hupp) Cumberlidge, Betty was born on April 24, 1939 at Belmont, Ohio.
Betty married Richard Thompson on August 6, 1961 and together they have enjoyed 63 years of marriage.
Her faith was nurtured at First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia. In her younger years, Betty enjoyed square dancing. Throughout her life she always enjoyed traveling with Dick. She worked for Ohio Bell for 15 years, then worked hand-in-hand with Dick as they owned and operated Thompson Water for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Richard “Dick” Thompson, sons, Kevin (Brenda) Thompson of New Philadelphia, and Tim (fiancé’ Michele) Thompson of Canton; grandchildren, Leslie (Kendall) Schlabach, Matthew Thompson, Cody Thompson, and Brittany Thompson; great-grandchildren, Kenlie, Sawyer, and Drake; brother, Bill Cumberlidge; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Ellen (Jerry) Morris.
The family will greet guests on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in First Baptist Church at New Philadelphia. A funeral service will be led by Pastor Jeff Bartell in the church at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in East Ave. Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
