Betty Jean Rankin, age 93, of New Philadelphia and formerly of Uhrichsville, died peacefully, early October 20, 2023, while in the care of Park Village Southside, following a period of declining health.
Born in Mill Township, Betty was a daughter of the late John D. and Lina Flinsbach Wolfe.
Following her graduation from the former Uhrichsville High School 1947, Betty worked as a stenographer at the former Ross Clay Product Company. She later became a cashier at Union Hospital and retired in 1997 from Twin City Hospital where she worked in the Medical Records Department as a transcriptionist.
Betty served for many years as a volunteer for Hospice of Tuscarawas County and for Twin City Hospital. She was a member of the Tuscarawas County Seniors.
On March 17, 1951, she married Russell Glenn “Red” Rankin and raised four children. Together they shared in 68 years of marriage prior to his passing on April 10, 2019.
She leaves behind her children, Jeff (Vicki) Rankin of The Villages, Florida, Linda (Roger) Medema of Lake Forrest, Illinois, James (Brenda) Rankin of Bolivar and John (Haley) Rankin of Midland, Texas; seven grandchildren, Justin Rankin, Erin Rankin, Lael and Race Medema, Lydia Fach, Jonathan Rankin, and Kyle Anderson; a great-granddaughter, Giulianna Grace Rankin; and a numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was very proud of her family and all of their accomplishments.
Completing the family are numerous cousins and family members in Germany, Rolf Schutz, Thomas Eichner, Rosemarie Klooz, Fred Heidinger and Anita Weinmann.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Wilber E. Wolfe; a sister, Helen Wolfe Rankin; and two brothers-in-law, Ed Rankin and Kenneth Donald Rankin.
The family will greet guests on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Betty’s life will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery at Uhrichsville.
