Betty Mae Wenger, age 76, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, February, 10, 2011 in Union Hospital at Dover following a brief illness.A daughter of the late Harry and Emma Zimmerman Ott, Betty was born at Bakersville, Ohio on Halloween, October 31, 1934.A 1952 graduate of West Lafayette High School, Betty met a young man named Glenn Wenger while attending an area dance. The pair took a liking to one another and were united in marriage on February 20, 1953.For more than 20 years, Betty served the Ohio Department of Transportation District 11 office and ultimately retired as a supervisor. She also held positions with GTE and Conley’s store. In her younger years, Betty enjoyed attending dances and traveling to Tuscora Park from Bakersville where she and her friends passed the time by roller skating. She was also a proficient typist and won a number of awards for her skills. Betty’s charismatic personality allowed her to live and enjoy life to the fullest. She never met a stranger, enjoyed the company of others, and had a lot of fun sharing stories and telling jokes. Many of those times spent with friends were through her visits as a member of the Dover Fraternal Order of Eagles, #515 of Dover and taking trips to Wheeling Island. Family time was spent much the same way, as she enjoyed sharing in the lives of her children and later her grandchildren. She loving shared stories with each of them and was sure to show support in every family member’s activities and ventures. Additionally, she was a long-time member of Jerusalem Church.In addition to her husband of nearly 58 years, Glenn, Betty will long be remembered by her two sons, Randy (Maureen) Wenger of New Philadelphia, and Mike (Marcia) Wenger of Dover; five grandchildren, Daniel and Josh Maley, Seth and Parker Swegheimer and Emma Wenger; a great-grandchild, Taylor Maley; and a special niece, Jody Ott. Numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews also survive.In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by a brother, William Ott.The family will receive friends on Monday, February 14, 2011, from 4:00 â?? 7:00 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with FOE Auxiliary services starting at 6:45 p.m. Pastor Jim Borton will lead a celebration of Betty’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Jerusalem Church Cemetery.The family wishes to invite guests to share in a meal and fellowship in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the New Philadelphia funeral home, following the committal service.The family requests that memorial contributions in Betty’s name be made to Community Hospice, 201 W Third Street Dover, Ohio 44622 or to the Ohio State Eagle Charities Inc. 1170 Richfield Center, Beavercreek, Ohio 45430.
