Betty June Oliver

Betty June Oliver, age 90, of Dover, died peacefully, Friday, March 23, 2012, in Park Village Retirement Center at Dover following a brief illness.

A daughter of the late Philip E. and Florence M. (Smith) Mathias, Betty was born on July 28, 1921, at Uhrichsville, Ohio.

She was a graduate of the former Tuscarawas High School and married Maurice L. Oliver at Gnadenhutten on October 19, 1941. The couple recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Betty was a former member of the United Methodist Church at Gnadenhutten where she served for 12 years as the church’s organist and pianist. After moving to Dover in 1953, she and and her family joined the First United Methodist Church at Dover. Betty was active in the United Methodist Women and the Mary Hannah Circle.

In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by two daughters, Carole Fait of Bolivar, and Karen (Harold) Link of Columbus, Ohio; three sons, Edward (Joan) Oliver of Williams Lake, British Columbia, Canada, Brian (Becky) Oliver of Bucyrus, Ohio, and Bryce (Julie) Oliver of Hilliard, Ohio; and a sister, Violet Zimmerman of Dover.

Nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren complete the family.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Zimmerman and three brothers, Raymond, Eugene and Robert Mathias.

The Rev. Bruce McLaughlin will conduct a funeral service celebrating Betty’s life Monday morning, March 26, at 11:00 in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Dover Burial Park.

Following the committal service, a luncheon will be served in the Hospitality Room of the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.
