Betty Jo Clark Wardell Lattner, age 71, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 13, 2015, in her residence, following a period of declining health.
Born at Dover, Ohio on February 14, 1944, Betty was a daughter of the late Clifford and Marcella (Stuber) Clark; and was a 1962 graduate of Strasburg-Franklin High School.
On June 1, 1962, Betty married David C. Wardell and together the couple reared two children. Betty took an active role in the operations of the family business, Wardell Farms. She enjoyed keeping a large garden, working in the meat house and the parts department of the machine business operated by the family.
On July 24, 1982, Betty married Kelly Lattner and together the couple shared in 27 years of marriage prior to his passing on December 14, 2009. In 1984, Betty began working for General Electric at Dover as a Wire Drawer and following 30 years on service, retired on April 1, 2004.
Betty took an active interest in lives of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed country music and was an avid reader; often remarking her mother always said, “She was born with a book in her hand.” Additionally, Betty was a member of the New Philadelphia VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a former member of the Moose.
She is survived by her son, Donald (Carol) Wardell of Newcomerstown; three grandchildren, Tiffany (Nic) Rettos, of West Lafayette, Matt (Trisha Patterson) Wardell of Newcomerstown, and April (Kaden Klein) Wardell of New Philadelphia; a sister, Mary (Marvin) Barger, and a sister-in-law, Helen Clark.
Completing the family are eight great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Weston, Dominic Rettos, Marco Rettos, Raiden Wardell, Charlotte Wardell, Hunter Rettos, Raven Klein, and Dakota Klein.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Lee Wardell, and her brother, Larry Clark.
The family will greet guests on Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Larry Fletcher will lead a service celebrating Betty’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the service, all are invited to share in a time of food and fellowship in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the New Philadelphia funeral home.
