Betty Jean Ruth, 75, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, October 20, 2006 in Hennis Care & Retirement Center at Dover.A daughter of the late Dana Franklin and Etta Mae (Shelton) Long, Betty was born December 24, 1930 in Erwin, Tennessee.She was an active member of the former New Philadelphia Moose where she held many office positions. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the Jolly Joker Canasta Card Club for over forty years. Also, while her children were in school, Betty was a member of the Quaker Ladies and a New Philadelphia High School Band Booster.She is surivived by one son, Floyd Lee (Luanne) Ruth of New Philadelphia; five daughters, Suzanne (Chris) Busby of Uhrichsville, Annette Ruth of Garner, North Carolina, Sheila (Lynn) Dudley of New Philadelphia, Capt. Brenda (Eric) Dehn of Santa Maria, California and Paula (Brent) Cronebach of Dover; six grandchildren, Ryan Ruth of New Philadelphia, Alyson Cronebach of Dover, Cody Cronebach of Dover, Shawn Patterson serving in Afghanistan, Tyler Polk of Santa Maria, California and Eric (Amy) Swinderman of Cleveland; step-grandchildren, Erica and Haleigh Dehn of Santa Maria, California and Nicole Busby of Uhrichsville; one sister, Elizabeth Pariso of Lisbon, Ohio and a special friend, Cecil Ollis of East Liverpool, Ohio.Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Floyd Harry Ruth, who passed away in 1983, and seven brothers and sisters.Family and friends may call in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Betty’s life will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Pastor Jim Borton officiating. Following the funeral service, a memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622.
